Tuesday Night Practice Sessions
Weekly 7.30 pm
Here we follow The Rigdzin Practice Book compiled by Amnyi Trulchung Rinpoche.
The reason for these practices is to learn how to free our hearts and minds from negative, destructive thoughts and emotions and instead, cultivate feelings of kindness for all beings. Negative thoughts are habits harmful for ourselves and others but, like any habits, they can be overcome and replaced with beneficial ones.
The practices in this booklet stem from the Nyingma Lineage (Ancient School) of Tibetan Buddhism.
These sessions are followed by study and discussion. Currently we are watching a series of talks from Amnyi Trulchung Rinpoche on the topic of Buddhist refuge.
This is suitable to those who are interested in pursuing study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism or if you are simply interested in checking it out. Please RSVP via the contact us page and come at 7 pm if it is your first time for an introduction.
Thursday Night - Shambhala Night
Weekly 7.30 pm.
The Christchurch Shambhala group that meets on Thursday nights is part of Shambhala International, a worldwide community of meditation centres founded by meditation master Vidyadhara Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, and led today by his son Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
Their teachings bring together three streams of wisdom:
the Kagyu and Nyingma teachings of Tibetan Buddhism
the wisdom teachings of Shambhala
For more information about the source of the teachings click here.
The meditation session consists of 20 minutes sitting, 10 minutes walking, and 20 minutes sitting again.
This is followed by either short video clips, a presentation from someone in the group or a reading and a discussion. If you are new to meditation please RSVP and come at 7 pm for a introduction.
Tea & cookies
Both nights include time for a cuppa tea and a cookie or cake. Please bring something along to share with the group from time to time.
Suggested donation is around $5. You can leave this in the donation bowl in the door going into the gompa or better yet - become a member and pay by monthly direct debit into the trust bank account.
Please note that this is a suggested donation that goes towards maintenance, up keep and further renovations of the gompa. Whatever you can manage is fine we do want you to feel welcome and know you can participate despite your financial situation.
